PowerOptions – Shutdown, Softreset, Standby, Dim Light, Screen Off

February 2nd, 2010 No Comments Posted in Freeware, News

http://home.arcor.de/maxxie/po12.jpgThe functions:

SoftReset will soft reset (warm boot) the device using a safe method advised by msdn (microsoft developer network). There are quite a few ways to soft reset a device actually and some of them are said to be unsafe (like KernelIO method). This function will work on all Windows devices since PPC 2003 incl. WM5 and WM6

Shutdown  will shut down the device using the same (HTC) method as if you’d press and hold the power on/off button for longer. On all HTC devices since the “Kaiser” the “Yes/No” dialog will be skipped and the device is shut down instantly. It will not work on non-HTC devices (will do no harm either however).

Standby will suspend the device using the same method as if you’d press and hold the power on/off button shortly. PowerOptions will exit afterwards. This function will work on all Windows devices since PPC 2003 incl. WM5 and WM6

Dim Light will turn off the backlight. PowerOptions will minimize but stay on the task list for you to switch back to full light more easily. This function will work on all HTC devices since PPC 2003 incl. WM5 and WM6- Other devices are unsure. It may or may not work (will do no harm either however).

Screen off will completely turn off the screen while WIFI, bluetooth, music etc. will still run.

Mobile Wi-Fi

February 1st, 2010 1 Comment Posted in News

The mission of providing 100% access to the broadband network has lead to the innovation of many new technologies. Internet data transfer takes place through cables, fiber optics, wireless and mobile technology. Mobile Broadband has become one of the favorite and most comfortable way of browsing. Increase in the level of privacy and accessibility has made mobile broadband to be the convenient choice. This technology uses the mobile network which exists through the length and breadth of the country to transfer data.

Mobile internet transfers data using 2G, 2.5G or 3G (G for generation) technology with a maximum speed limit of 14.4Mbps; while experts also say that the upcoming 4G technology will offer speeds up to 100Mbps. Moreover, mobile technology has made the broadband connection available completely wireless using a compact modem which works with the help of a SIM card. Recent day mobile broadband modems are smaller than the smallest mobile phones which has become a regular gadget for notebook users.

Convenience, ease of use and flexibility makes things popular. Before the emergence of the mobile broadband it was the Wi-Fi zones or the hotspots that gained popularity. People gained access to free or cheaper internet even in public places like airports and shopping malls. Even though mobile broadband had stopped people from searching the Wi-Fi zones, only notebook users feel more comfortable. But use of communication and entertainment devices like computers, notebooks, palmtops, smart phones, GPS, i-pod, etc, have become common among individual users.

Understanding the needs of the users, the mobile broadband devices are upgraded to the next level, providing wireless access to multiple devices using a single connection. It’s an integration of mobile broadband and Wi-Fi technology, otherwise known as Mi-Fi. This technology is more popular in US and is launched by 3 mobile in UK. The device is an independent source of internet, accessible by any wireless 802.11 B/G enabled device.  It is powered using a rechargeable lithium battery and can access the 3G network using a SIM card. It has the capability of sharing the mobile internet among different users or devices; somewhat similar to a wireless router. All functionalities of the router can be controlled by multiple switches and are indicated using large display. It also has editable software that allows users to personalize the configuration of the router. 3 MiFi modem also acts as a card reader which allows the access of Micro SD memory card. The device provides better signal strength for the Wi-Fi access and holds good for a 5 hours of continuous browsing. It’s a perfect gadget that can be used in a house hold or by individuals who use multiple devices regularly for communicating or downloading from the internet.

The emergent of faster broadband access and the need for more mobility will definitely make the Mi-Fi modems to be the more popular gadget of any internet user in the future. Also it would help the customers better, if the device is upgraded to allow access for wireless 802.11N network, which facilitates file sharing among different devices.

Windows Mobile 7 htc universal Windows Mobile 7 running on HTC Universal

While HTC Universal is a pretty old device in these days, it has been spotted running Windows Mobile 7 in Russia . Windows Mobile 7 is destined to be released in the Q3 of 2010 and we can expect the first Windows Mobile 7 device sometime in Q4 2010. This means that Windows Mobile 7 can run on pretty much any device.

A couple of days ago we write about the minimum system requirements for Windows Mobile 7, but now seems they are a lot less:

Minimum ROM: 128 mb + 512 flash / They are stated with 8 GB – very far from the true
Minimum RAM: 128 mb – recomended 256+
CPU: 600mhz ARM v6+ / Stated 1 GHz – very far from the true
FM reciever is not a requirement for WM7 – means that it is not needed for WM7 to funktion properly
Compass is not a requirement for WM7 – means that it is recommended for the device to have compass but it is not needed by the OS to funktion properly
3.6? display – not requirement at all WM7 devices will be available in many difrend display sizes
WVGA is not minimal resolution for WM7, there are vesions available by Microsoft which are QVGA as well WM7 support al resolutions and it is up to the OEM which one they will use for their devices
G-Sensor (accelerometer) – not required for functioning, recommended but not required

Google Nexus One review

January 31st, 2010 No Comments Posted in News

google nexus one 1 Google Nexus One review

The Nexus One is made by HTC with of course fantastic  build quality. The device is lightweight in hand, and it’s just 11mm thick (the width of a pencil according to Google’s information), it easily slips into your pocket. The body of the phone is made from a soft plastic material that offers a nice non-slip effect. The touch screen, which is 3.7 inch. and with WVGA 800?480 resolution, uses capacitive touch. While it doesn’t support multitouch (officially) out the box, there are some custom applications available for free from the Android Marketplace. Anyway, there are too many reviews over the internet but if you are looking for a complete Nexus One Review you should take a look here.
